“Service with a smile”
Were you ever so mad about purchasing a broken tool or getting olives when you specifically didn’t order them? But then, suddenly, the manager starts walking towards you with a big fat smile. All of a sudden you find your voice starting to drift to a lower volume, your heart isn’t beating so fast and you unintentionally start to smile back.
Smiles are free and easy to pass around, so why don’t we use them more in our profession? We, as a species are inclined to mimic the actions of those we communicate with. Ever heard the saying, ‘smile and the world will smile back’? Well maybe, just maybe, if you did, that client, that journalist, whoever it is, just might start to smile back.
